This time last year, we were getting ready for Bean’s second birthday party, where we announced we were expecting another baby.
Bean’s party theme was “lumberjacks” and we decked out the house in homemade buffalo plaid buntings and pinecones collected on a weekend trip to the grandparents.
We kept the food relatively simple with some crockpot hot dogs and trimmings, beef queso, baked beans, chili, chips and dip.
His cake was a simple premade chocolate cake from Sam’s Club that we decorated with some candy letters and some pine tree cupcake picks. I decorated sugar cookies like pancakes and found some gummy fried eggs that were surprisingly delicious. And we obviously had to have some pie to honor Pi Day.
Something sort of special that we put together was a DIY s’mores bar. We used Sterno cans and offered a variety of chocolate, marshmallows and graham crackers. Everyone had a lot of fun roasting marshmallows and customizing their personal s’mores.
Of course, no lumberjack party would be complete without a mini campsite with a faux forest and a cracking fire. Bean loved the tent I made for him and the kids used this area as a pretend space while the grown ups used it as a photo background. Bean still loves “hiding” in his tent on a daily basis.
It’s so sad looking back and realizing how quickly this past year has gone. Bean has gotten so much bigger and is so funny and kooky. I’m so glad he’s part of our lives and I hope he enjoys this year’s birthday party.
I’ll let y’all know the verdict once I recover from all the party prep.
