Stitching Skin Tones With DMC Threads

I’m auditioning colors for a RBG portrait pattern and I got stuck on what DMC thread to use for her skin tone…

My thread box is decently stocked with a range of colors but I haven’t had any projects that called for skin tones so I had very little DMC floss to try out and I wasn’t really sure where to start.

A DMC floss chart with actual floss samples would be really helpful, but I feel bad spending money on sample floss that I can’t actually use. I’m working on a solution that I’ll post about later…

Anyway, I did a little search and I found this PDF that offers a good tips about how to choose complimentary colors for a project and gave me a handy chart that pointed me in the right direction.

Luckily, I have a couple of colors in my thread box that will actually work!

Disclaimer: This post contains an affiliate link to the DMC floss chart. Amazon has it listed at $100 but you can totally get it from Commonthread for $25 when they have it in stock. But I’d rather spend $25 on 50+ skeins of floss ($0.42 each) that I can use…
